โThereโs piss on the floorโ is, funny enough, an email I sent to my benevolent property management company this morning. Their security standard seems a bit behind Bridgewaterโs.
I was about to comment that I would, at a different hedge fund, have to email Facilities about piss on the floor, the wall, the bowl, etc. frequently. Wtf
Great coup for Substack getting Taylor Lorenz. Given her area of expertise, it's not just her following that is a coup.
Will there be an oversupply of these clubs? I think the "it's too hard to get a reservation at x restaurant" is a facade rather than a reality. Who wants to eat at the same place every time you go out?
My friend and I stayed at Lifehouse Berkshires for a weekend trip for an abysmally low price of $125 per night in April and it was wonderful. Itโs in Lenox MA and as long as you donโt mind an Amtrak itโs easy to get to from NYC. The town is wonderfully quaint with great hiking, cafes, and the hotel restaurant was actually amazing. Norman Rockwell museum is also a stoneโs throw away and a must! Highly recommend if looking for a cheap getaway (although I think the prices fluctuate a lot so check in an off season).
I stayed there earlier this year and met a bunch of baby cows nearby and it was one of the best trips of the year. I think Lifehouse is sus as hell as a company but the hotel rocked.
LOL totally agree about company (a friend worked at the Nantucket location one summer for high school and had some crazy stories) but the experience was incredible!
I interviewed for a job with Bridgewater years ago at their HQ in CT. Strange experience to say the least. They had me take a Myers Briggs personality test, a written test of math problems & brain teasers, and a group interview with 10 executives in a big conference room. They told me "we're looking for raw athletes." Super secretive, hush-hush, every meeting recorded. Felt like a cult.
Need to know what your go to torani + creamer combo is for your coffee. When i do โhome coffeeโ i like the sugar free chocolate + vanilla nut pod + peppermint mocha nutpod if it is seasonally available. Torani is definitely my preferred syrup of choice.
I was just in Hudson this past Friday for my birthday and stopped by The Maker Hotelโsuch a stunning place! I was searching for a room for the past couple of months, but it was fully booked. Not that we could've swung it financially either! ๐
Yes by the founders of Fresh! Its a gorgeous property and very unique. They have a fragrance library for guests and have their own line of fragrances which are lovely!
there's a reason why my long weekend next weekend is wed-sunday not friday-monday... the dynamic per night pricing on these upstate hotels is wild (including the glamping options like getaway)!
Yes, I was going to say my hack is a Sunday-Monday (tuesday if I'm lucky) vibe.
Most interested in Hyatt Chatwal which I don't think was listed BUT have been to Troutbeck and Wildflower which were both "strong to quite strong" but not AMAZING. Fall upstate, we're at the mercy of two night mins and fall surge pricing ;)
I keep wondering if more of the Poconos will get the upstate NY treatment. Just a matter of time I'm sure.
The website is definitely cute. going to bookmark this, thanks! And I think the creep will continue all the way up to the fanciest and most northern option - The Point - until nowhere in NY state is devoid of overpriced and charming hotels ;)
Ah, but once you get to Paris you will find yourself either (a) spending even more on hotels or (b) staying in a decrepit 2-star hole-in-the-wall (and not in a charming way). I'll take the New England option!
Fun fact: The Mayflower in CT was where Amy Sherman-Palladino stayed when she was inspired to write the Gilmore Girls pilot.
That is a fun fact
The Zyn advert is very โhopped up Don Draper spitballing for Life Cerealโ

High risk appetite = cavalier aim
Nah, I suspect the micro-p on most of these hedge fund bros is more difficult to aim (from a former hedge fund pm)

I make normal coffee like in a coffee pot + French vanilla or some fucked up seasonal coffee mate
Literally everyone is moving to Milan because of the flat tax
Should we go
Yes...
Iโd like to hear more about these posture realizations
Theyโre not good Jolie! Notttttt goodโฆ.
Ughhh hate to hear that. Our poor spines

The Maker is such a cool story, the founders started Fresh I think?
I love hotels so much but some of the airbnbs are bigger, better, and more affordable if youโre down to make your own coffee

HARD disagree (when it comes to this exact time of year)
Tbf, Iโm very difficult when it comes to hotels ๐ซฃ
