Good morning everyone. I wasn’t really in the mood to write a newsletter this morning. I was at a Knicks game last night and everyone in MSG was looking at the same orange flames on their phone screens, toggling over to their emails, taking selfies, and then returning to the feed of flames.
I was sitting a few seats away from a fight that happened in the stands (me and my friends are in the background of this video) that didn’t really result in anything but a shuffling of seats. Weird night. I hope you’re all ok and staying safe.

Congratulations to Friend of the Letter and host of How Long Gone, Chris Black, on his book deal. It is a collection of criticism, bridging the very high with the very low to tell a story of American culture. Probably would’ve crushed as a newsletter, but we know CB would die before writing on Substack.
GQ published an essay yesterday from a writer who goes by . Their name is otherwise anonymous. I thought this was sort of unusual when I saw the byline yesterday, and I wonder if this is going to happen more with the prevalence of anonymous writers gaining traction and influence on Twitter and Substack (remember when Insider unmasked Litquidity a year ago?). I don’t know much about this guy “Coldhealing” guy but he sounds contentious based on Twitter’s reaction to his essay.
