People are tired of the neatly curated matching lists of the app. Gotta filter for your hair color, religion, politics, hobbies, best angles, chat gpt-generated chat game -- stop, enough of the control freakism and closed mindedness. They're seeking old school chaos and spontaneity. Let's get some people dancing together that have no business ever exchanging numbers let alone going home together under the venture-funded oppression of user profiles. I'm extremely bullish.
Awesome to see someone running a magazine respond in such thoughtful and well written answers. Reminds me some people in journalism still got it.
Total side note for you Emily- have you done any AB testing on the subscribe button language? I feel like I’ve seen it change, might be making that up, but I just read it in this article and saw it says it’s daily but the yearly price is broken down into weekly figures. $1.50 a week is nothing but I wonder if you broke it into daily (about 22 cents) to line up with the frequency of publishing it would have any effect. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My wife can handle any spicy food. It's a matter of pride for her. The only time she was spice-defeated was in Bhutan with a raw pepper from our guide's garden. As for me, I'm a spice wimp.
For my wife in terms of spice, she’ll request spicy like the chef would eat if she’s ordering Thai. We have a friend who sends her homegrown dried cayenne pepper. He wears a hazmat suit to make it.
We like to order from Nectar on Madison and 82nd. It’s crazy expensive for a diner but the food is decent and it comes within minutes. Pasta and chicken sandwiches when we don’t have home cooked food. Pretty boring.
Timely lede complaining about Substack's horrible UI. I spent 20 mins today on an endless loop with their GenAI chatbot trying to figure out why Feed Me stopped appearing in my in-App inbox & why notifications stopped (just for this newsletter - no others)! No resolution yet, but welcome any tips from the crowd 🙏🏻
ALSO, in 2021 British Airways invested heavily in their premium cocktail service (bespoke mixed drinks from Mr Lyan featured in lounges and in-air) but quietly shuttered this in 2024 due to cost saving measures. Interested to see how this plays out across different airlines tho, BA is having a real “race to the bottom” moment right now
Bartending in an airport is an experienced personal hell. The Tip Top canned cocktails are probably best on the market though if somebody doesn’t want to play Russian roulette with ordering a classic cocktail at the DFW Chili’s Bar & Grill.
When I take it in the morning with either some oats or yogurt, I always notice that I consume far less coffee/nicotine, i’m less drawn to needless snacking, and my pacing back and forth ceases to exist. I’m not big on on other supplements, but I was surprised at real differences with SuperYou.
Such a fan of Nikki and MC. One of my all time favorite publications and one of my favorite events I’ve ever been to was Power Play. The whole team at MC is incredible.
Hi Nikki. I would love to pitch an article idea to you on "Real French Beauty Secrets/Products" that get no coverage in the US magazines.I lived in France (several regions) for close to 20 years and was a repeat contributor to Hemispheres (United Airlines In Flight Mag) and The Robb Report. If your readers want to know about more than drugstore brands (Yes- this is what features on french beauty products consist of)as well as the websites they can order from please let me know your email address so I can pitch!
BRB, I am alchemizing some functional bevs for the launch event

Same. Hence my iconic Vegas trip and post-NYT profile bender.
I think this was the plot for “the last days of disco”
This is how we used to do it btw - good times - I'm Gen X
Oooh this was a good interview, definitely stealing "everyone can eat."
The responses were really a breath of fresh air.
Rooting for the success of MC and Nikki, great read :)
Haven’t people been awoogah-horny since like 2021? Wondering if there’s a secondary or tertiary factor driving the club comeback.
Jordan they needed a sec to sign the leases and hang the chandelier and soundproof the walls!
Agreed - horny and unfulfilled is the eternal human condition, not an explanation for a recent uptick in club openings
Love everything Nikki has to say - best Guest Lecture yet!!! (Aside from Meg’s 😉)

What’s your most common takeout order

I'm gonna be real, the mini bottles of wine on air france always make my week.
they only have them on air france??
a lot of others now just pour you a glass from a big bottle on the cart, which is simply not as fun
They’re free on Air France

Love that Moon Juice is getting the Kardashian love over Erewhon — hopefully they’ll start shipping internationally again
What's your go-to product from them?
Magnesi-om. U?
their sleepy cherry magnesiom
The Super-You supplement markedly improves my day
talk to me

Okay I have a bottle in my cabinet, going to check the expiration date tonight.
