“I really do think that the republicans are looser than the dems with these parties.”
Recency bias a bit due to Dems not having a proper Inaugural celebration in…12 years! The JB Pritzker Admin inaugural with Mark Cuban and Hasan Piker will go hard.
This line is the beginning of a Netflix show (or a future season of The Diplomat) that I would watch the absolute hell out of: "Huge crowds of people freaking out over the Pauls while the president of Argentina stood alone at the bar."
The resurgence of fur at this particular moment is interesting. I just bought a vintage fur from a consignment store in Palm Springs so I am part of the problem. (I live somewhere cold). I’m sure wearing a vintage fur is also bad morally but I wanted to use something that’s already been made. In my mind that was more sustainable than buying a new one that’s made of plastic but I understand why other people look at it differently. For what it’s worth when I wore it with my fake fur Russian hat the other day, five different people told me I looked like a movie star.
Ok so I actually don't understand why people believe wearing vintage fur is bad morally / why other people look at it differently. Can you please share what that perspective is if you've heard it? I just don't really get it...it's so much better than a) it ending up in the trash or b) wearing plastic fur and I don't get what the c) option is if it's not one of those two?
Also I think the resurgence of fur is a confluence of several factors, including but not limited to, the return of maximalism (big furs are a statement) and the return of traditional aesthetics (I'm thinking of calling it 'regressive nostalgia'). We're heading into very 80s vibes aesthetically, mirroring the 80s era political/economic climate.
I don’t even know why it makes people that mad—at this stage of the internet I guess I expect nearly anything I do to be offensive to someone somewhere lol. I often feel like I need to reflexively anticipate that someone will be upset with something I’ve done. (Yes, I am in therapy). Anyway I get why vegans won’t wear vintage fur or leather on principle—there’s a certain logical coherence to that—and I imagine that’s probably the population the most opposed it, but I’m not sure. For my part I’d rather use things that have already been fabricated and commit to taking good care of them so that they last as long as possible.
I think you’re right about the 80s being back. Corporate fetish felt like a bellwether for that too.
I lived a few blocks from the Quad and saw 9 1/2 Weeks there as part of a Mickey Rourke film festival (!) they were having. The movie is cringe, but I needed to see those amazing 80s fashions on the big screen--the oversized coat, the Comme, that octagon Cartier Santos! Plus they'd screen all the Oscar contenders for neighborhood Academy voters--how cool. Long live the Quad!
Bain Carhartt has nothing on Blackstone Belt Buckle. Blue collar stolen valor has gone too far.
Avery Stone writing the Cut article about exercise/endorphins and saying that she played college hockey and 'lived in the rink' but I think I've only ever heard or said 'at the rink.' Is this the on line vs. in line argument?
Yeti golf bag is brilliant: indestructible, good wheels, holder for their cups, etc. Plus everyone who golfs has expendable income which is a pre-req for Yeti
I went to the opening event but haven’t made it there for a formal meal yet. Was quite impressed with what we had but nowhere near ready to issue an official ruling of any sort.
quad is not my favourite independent theater but i hate hate hate to see a small indie cinema close down. i saw the african desperate there when almost no theaters in NY were playing it <3
I usually enjoy Dazed but this article feels guilty of the same thing it’s trying to call out the tabloids for.
It simultaneously tries to, clumsily, protect the agency of the OF models participating in the challenges while suggesting the space where they may be victim to their amateurism is taking on too much responsibility in the facilitation of them.
Also tabloids are the original rage baiters, exploiting these issues and others since their inception.
Sorry I just cannot imagine dc will ever be a food town! No one there is interested in food. Also sorry but not a fan of baked and wired-space is awful, coffee mediocre and service lacking! But we had few options in gtown!
On the tabloidifacation of sex, I refer you to Amber Hull who writes Under The White Coat. We did a collaboration post last week and she haas become my go to on all sex questions.
Reporting live from a public space in Milan, and i can assure you, we are still smoking
Can you tell us how you feel about this ban

It's giving Dynasty vibes, but I don't hate it. I blame it on Hailey.

We are also nearby and frequent the Quad and would hate to see it go down.
they need to pay their bills!!! I'd suggest they hire an events person a la The Roxy and get brands in there more frequently to host parties
