Good morning. Is anyone concerned I have not one, not two, but three dinners at Monkey Bar next month? There was a brief moment this summer when I considered getting a hostess job there because I thought it would 1. be glamorous and good novel fodder, and 2. be a wonderful networking opportunity. And now 3. I wouldn’t have to go back and forth to South Slope so often for these DINNERS.
Some news:
Gabbriette, the face of kitchen BDSM (Baking, Doing the most, Sugar, Making cooking videos) is coming out with a line of leather aprons. They’re made in collaboration with London-based R&M Leathers. “Made with a supple and sturdy cowhide this piece is both practical and aesthetic. Style falls to the mid thigh. and has belted detail which is fully adjustable on both the waist and neck. Features a heart pocket with silver tone stud detail.” These are a pretty hot wishlist item, and I can see them working well in the kitchen and the bedroom, if you know what I mean. If you need an intro to Gabbriette, I suggest starting with bullet two here.
Carlyle, the megafund PE firm (in the same tier as Apollo, KPR and Blackstone) will not be investing in your consumer startup. The group says it no longer sees opportunity in U.S. consumer deals. Their current consumer portfolio includes Supreme and McDonalds, but this week their CEO told shareholders that it’s pulling back from future U.S. consumer, media, and retail investments, which no longer have a place within Carlyle’s buyout strategy. Some say the final nail in Carlyle’s consumer coffin may have been hammered by Kim Kardashian. She partnered with Jay Sammons, Carlyle’s former global head of consumer, on the 2022 launch of her consumer-focused fund Skyy Partners. Carlyle never found a permanent replacement.
