Thank you guys for selling out the Feed Me sweatshirts! I’m going to pack and ship these tomorrow, but there will be one more run of them available for in-person purchase next weekend in New York.
Last night, I went to a Christmas party at The Dakota. There was more security than TSA, which resulted in a safe, boozy holiday party. Photos do Lauren Schoffield’s Seussical desserts justice — perhaps a still life painting would. There was also a piano player, a bag pipe player, and there should’ve been a designated survivor to ensure continuity of New York media if something happened to that apartment because it seemed like the industry’s best editors were all eating cream puffs at 10pm.
Today’s letter includes: why Alaïa and Prada are selling you pastries, Sofia Coppola’s new business, and a branded barn party with Dave Ramsey and Tucker Carlson.
Prada is opening a restaurant in Soho.
A few months ago, I wrote about a rumor I heard: that Prada was taking over the Lure Fishbar location in Soho. I woke up to a text that was sent to me at 4:30am that confirmed this rumor. When I asked the source if Prada bought the whole building (the Pradas store is right upstairs), he said, “Something like that.” I’ll try to get more details from my Soho real estate plugs. The block is ground zero for people who walk around the city with portable chargers and a dream to gain followers on TikTok — Fanelli, Glossier, The Apple Store, and Balthazar are seconds away.
Which brings us to the new Alaïa cafe in London, with baked goods from Violet Cakes (who famously made Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake) like scones and banana buttermilk bread. There are so many reasons why luxury brands open cafes — Giorgio Armani opened his cafe in Paris in 1998 for shoppers to have a place to eat or drink after shopping (Armani opened another restaurant in New York just a few weeks ago). Barneys (RIP) famously had the best french fries in New York. The line at Aimé Leon Dore’s coffee shop is full of men scrolling Raya while waiting for cookies.
