I’ve been saying the same thing that you have, that we will see acquisitions more and more — buying them now before they get too big and potentially cannibalize an audience is one reason. The other being that it’s just good business. Newsletters make a lot of money when run correctly — with basically zero overhead and a staff of one. I have already been offered writing gigs at legacy titles but am waiting for the right fit… I think it would be short sighted of a writer to retire their newsletter to hop over to a Conde or otherwise full time, but a column that could boost both brands is a boon. I couldn’t be happier for Sarah, she’s one of the kindest and most hard working reporters out there, and her earnest tone will be a breath of fresh air for Puck which leans snarky. Nobody deserves a big boost like this more and I think it was really smart of Lauren to snag her now. It’s an exciting time to be part of this new media wave! Don’t you go selling Feed Me yet though!!
And agree! The overhead is so low, newsletters like Sarah’s also deeply understand how to use affiliate in the right way. So they’re getting a great writer but also an expert on an area that could potentially blow up their revenue
Sarah and Lauren are going to be a content tour de force — two of the hardest working writers I follow, so happy for Sarah! I've noticed Puck getting more into the affiliate game recently 👀
As ex-wall street - I would bet a lot of money that those culture pieces only cover the "fun" side of it all. It would go too dark too fast otherwise. Not surprising they didn't hire a woman to do it, just sayingggg.
"Giorgio Armani opened a restaurant in New York. Spots like this and LV’s new restaurant are more accessible ways for people to participate in the brand than say, buying a $5k bag."
i am not yet sure if this is better or worse than logo tees, but they are both certainly bad. please god end this theme park-ification of brands. we dont need it! just post the faux-trunk facade from the nyc flagship store on your ig story!
Funny to see the story about $25 canapés right after you discussed this phenomenon with the HLG boys. So happy for Sarah. I was a free subscriber to Retail Diary and the value she provided even to free subs was just outrageous.
I'm happy for Sarah, but worried about losing "her" in this new platform - I love love love her voice and style. The Puck site feels very blah to me. I subscribed, will see how this goes!
I started a fresh food vending machine company. All of our food was locally sourced/regenerative/organic and our product actually tasted good. That company failed, best of luck to AG1!
Funny you mentioned the fact that Harry’s has a terrible social media presence because I recently saw three creative/social media positions open at the company so they must need a new team!
Retail Diary is incredibly well-executed, and Sarah as a voice seems incredible earnest and kind. I love seeing hard work pay off. But I like Substack (nicer vibe) more than I like Puck. What ever happened to that “Puck “insiders circle” you wrote about a bit back?
Yeah… I love Lauren’s intel but the vibe is so…90s Vanity Fair or something. It feels like it’s written to be aspirational, when in fact actual industry people are reading it and contributing to its success. This goes for all of Puck, not just Linesheet…
I am definitely not against smaller portions of really nice food. I just wish I could get a smaller portion of steak when I go out to eat. It's hard for me to successfully cook steak in my apartment kitchen so it's a dining out food for me, but even if I weren't on Mounjaro I can't eat 18 ounces of ribeye. Why can't I get 6 ounces of ribeye? If a steak place does have a 6 or 8 ounce steak it's a filet which doesn't do it for me.
Also, I feel like a huge Mounjaro cliche for this but I am excited to go to New Orleans next week for our annual trip because I can just eat oysters and shrimp cocktail at every meal.

Who the hell would buy Feed Me lol

Someone will want to, sure of that much
Who the hell might you tolerate working for? That would be a starting list
"selling the violence and the peace" is chef's kiss description haha
hahahah
^^ the poison and the cure

They should hire the dark side, I heard an iconic story last year about a two-day hangover post-Goldman Sachs Christmas afterparty at a strip club.
The stories from the 90's/00's Christmas parties will go down in history; years later people still talk about them with a gleam in their eye.
Though I have heard about some client events taking place in nyc bath houses?! The Street will forever be an adult boys playground

Her fanbase is STRONG

"Would you spend $30 on one bite of food? "
- Bazaar, by Jose Andres
lol
and thats no shade to jose. good chef good guy.
but i need *some* volume
Also.. I hope Hallie batchelder is getting a sweet part of that vodka deal. That woman is doing the work for the martini lobby
In major major ways. Starting to wonder if it’s an act or not
I really wasn't expecting that we'd reach newsletter acquisition phase so soon.
I think it's more.... acqui-hiring. Makes sense, they want to hire more great people, and a lot of great people happen to have newsletters.

Oh wow… they definitely do 😂
Harry’s is still private!
sorry, they FILED* for an IPO

wait, digging into her holding company (TRNDG, i get it) and its trademarks ... Alex Cooper is going to open a bar?
does anyone actually call her Big Al?
Big Al's Bar was a pop-up she did at SXSW I think
that makes more sense — just dug in and saw some “reviews” on TikTok
she’s kind of unassailable, she basically became Gen Z Barbara Walters (complimentary) during the Olympics
I have to ask about the coat - size XS or S? Reviews say it runs big! Thanks!
I bought small, and it’s still roomy
