Shelter Island's Dover Street Market
In the back of this Hamptons IGA is... a streetwear store.
Goooooood morning.
A new landmark study has found that young people across the world value ‘power, achievement, hedonism and stimulation’ more than other generations. This is what I’m talking about. The findings found that 44% of Gen Z thought it was important to be very successful and have people recognize their achievements, compared with 37% of millennials, 23% of Gen X, 13% of boomers and 14% of the silent generation. 32% of Gen Z believe it is important to be rich, compared with just 26% of millennials and 16% of Gen X. I think this is going to be a super exciting swing to watch, especially in workplaces and how authority hashes out. Social media, the researchers claim, has a lot to do with it. “Younger generations have grown up in highly [digitised] societies in which peers’ achievements are broadcast on social media, affording a window into the highlights of other people’s lives,” Taylor Saia, strategy director at BCW, wrote in the report. “As a result, it’s no wonder that younger generations focus so much on realizing, and being seen to be realizing, their highest potential.”
A.I.’s female defaults are teaching our youngest generations to associate women’s voices with obedience. And you should do what I say. But why is A.I. female by default? One reason for the predominance of female voices is historical. Companies needing a voice are likely to opt for the easiest option, and the database of recordings that already exists skews female. In the last two years, Apple has updated Siri to ask users the gender they would like, a step in the right direction, and yet the majority of voice assistants still present as female by default.
Kim Kardashian became the biggest draw at the Super Return conference in Berlin in her new role as a private equity mogul. Kardashian, who last year announced that she would partner with Carlyle Group Inc. veteran Jay Sammons to start Skky Partners, hosted the most popular panel at the three-day event, with an overflow room filled to capacity at the conference center. Skky Partners is targeting ten to 12 investments related to consumer and media, requiring anywhere from $100 million to $500 million of equity each, according to an investor presentation seen by Bloomberg. At the panel, questions about Skky’s strategy were mostly directed to Sammons, while Kardashian was asked about her career as an influencer and whether she drives her children to school. Fuck that.
