Dave Clark resigned as Flexport’s CEO pretty suddenly (he’d only been there for a year). The former Amazon senior executive is considering a run for governor of Texas, according to people familiar with the matter. Flexport’s founder Ryan Petersen will return to the company as chief executive. Founders stepping into chairman role then boomeranging back into CEO / operational role is such a classic startup narrative. Iger just did it too. Some people say founders do it when the upcoming year is bad enough that whoever is CEO will get fired… so they pick a sacrificial lamb and make sure they’re not in the hot seat. The tweet insinuates there were some serious strategy disagreements.
Forever21 launched a collection with Barneys. What the fuck? The 32-piece collection is designed to be unisex and includes monochromatic basics such as leggings, blazers and denim, priced between $30 and $130. Both Barneys New York and Forever 21 are owned by brand-management company Authentic Brands Group which acquired the intellectual property of Barneys for $271.4 million in October 2019, and bought Forever 21 in February 2020. “It’s great timing because we can play up a brand that is identifiable and iconic, and also symbolizes quiet luxury,” said CEO Winnie Park.

Lodi, the splashy Italian Rockefeller Center bakery cafe from Ignacio Mattos, is shutting down its bakery to add another 24 or so seats to the dining room. Employees, who learned of the changes this week, attempted to unionize earlier this year.
