Spitting, cereal, and a new show from Unwell.
Today's news + something special for paid readers.
Good morning everyone.
Some housekeeping:
You guys want a party, so I’m throwing a party (for my paid readers). Scroll to the bottom of this page to RSVP. Thank you Free People and Las Jaras for making this possible.
A few of you have hit me up asking what fragrance course I took at FIT. Linking a similar one for next semester here.
When you guys say hi to me on the street it makes my day. I love you to the person who came up to me last night at dinner, I was having an emotional night and you made me cry for the third time in an hour.
NEWS:
Lorde teased her own album with a photo of her spitting. She also outed herself as a Substack user, linking to
recent essay on political demonstration in her Instagram Stories.
Texas wants to have its own national stock exchange by 2026. BlackRock Inc. and Citadel Securities are both supporting the exchange, which is looking to challenge the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Inc. It’s got to be pretty special for it to work.
There’s only one movie theater left in the borough of the Bronx. AMC Bay Plaza Cinema 13 became the only theater in the Bronx last week when Concourse Plaza Multiplex Cinemas near Yankee Stadium shut down after three decades — a stunning turn for a borough of more than 1.4 million people. “It’s kind of like our childhood is being erased,” one mother told The Post. “I want my daughter to have a piece of my childhood with her, because the technology nowadays does not give them the childhood we went through.” This makes me so sad, New York hasn’t prioritized its theaters in the same way other cities have.
U Beauty and Tinx collabed on a lipgloss inspired by summer dating. The copy sounds like it was written in 2017 (“designed to take you from date night to brunch and beyond”) but the people adore Tinx and honestly, the U Beauty glosses are incredible (no, I didn’t spend $70 on one, Rachel Stugatz gave it to me). This product kills it for U Beauty – unit sales of the Plasma product have increased 124% in 2024, and dollar sales are up 120%. From 2022 to 2023, unit sales grew 105% year-over-year while dollar sales increased 97%.
