Good morning. I’m going to Vegas tonight. If I win a lot of money, I’ll buy you all a treat.
“I love your Instagram page and your weekday blogs! How do you come up with prompts everyday? Is there any specific plan you go through or is it spontaneous? I wanted to start one on my own, but I am not sure how to find my own unique style:)”
No plan, you just wake up and do it.
Before this was a letter about news, Feed Me was an outlet for my short fiction stories. I started writing short stories because I was going through a period of fantasizing about worst case scenarios and freaking myself out about my neighbors and what they could possibly be doing inside of their apartments. At the end of last year, I sensed Meta was about to have layoffs and turned my mostly-dormant newsletter into daily news commentary.
You should start one! Only way to find your style of writing is to write a lot, read a lot, and go outside.
I don’t have anything on my Instagram right now so not sure what you mean about THAT.
Do you have a daily short form news podcast recommendation? Like, in the same genre of your newsletter, not The Daily.
I listen to beauty podcasts (Eyewitness Beauty, Gloss Angeles, and Fat Mascara) every day because I think a lot of the trends in the skincare and beauty business trickle into other industries that I’m interested in. I also think you can make a lot of cultural predictions based on how people spend their money on aesthetics.
I enjoy the deep dives that Business of Fashion does. Hard Fork is a great tech podcast.
To answer your question, no, I don’t listen to any daily podcasts. I can make it for you if you want.
What is the most useless advice you could possibly give, that - on the surface - seems like super useful and plausible advice?
Anything that’s like “Find time to truly unplug” or “Strive for work-life balance” or “Make sure to take your unlimited vacation days”. I think work speaks for itself, and the most successful people I know spend a lot of time grinding and plugged in, even on vacation.
What media is exciting you these days?
