East Hampton’s Guild Hall theater has re-opened. I love this building so much, and the renovations kept the circus-tent ceiling motif and iconic balloon chandelier in tact. Donors to the project include Ralph Lauren, Leon Black, “British Virgin Islands Tourist Board,” David Zwirner, and Chuck Close.
YouTube is really good at getting kids to buy stuff. Maybe it’s because I don’t have kids and am not really around them much, but I didn’t realize YouTube is fully the replacement for television in many houses with kids — this report found that 81% of kids watched YouTube recently, ahead of video on demand (62%), video games (45%), TikTok (44%), and broadcast TV (39%). And more than just clocking in watch time, kids are recalling YouTube ads more than ones on TV, driving higher discovery and purchase requests.
is doing things differently than many beauty founders (I mean, she has a Substack), but that has always been the case. I kind of want to help her out with that Substack…. I read in BoF this morning that she hosted a Zoom meeting with some of her most loyal customers. Part of Jones Road’s success comes down to Brown’s close connection with her customers, and the Zoom call was the first of its kind – arranged to celebrate the two-year-old Facebook group hitting the milestone of 50,000 members. I think for beauty particularly, efforts like this (or private DM groups on Instagram, or Ty Haney’s TYB, or whatever) are super important. As we know, the Glossier team spends a lot of time in the Glossier subreddit. Sometimes I wish Feed Me had a Discord or Slack, but for now I guess the comment section here suffices for feedback and conversation.
