Why are labiaplasty procedures up 45%?
Plus a new downtown radio concept, and slutty running fits.
Good morning everybody. I wore this perfect dress from Doen last night and I felt like such an Upper East Side bitch on my walk from drinks on 70th Street to dinner on 55th Street while I took all of my evening phonecalls.
The next Feed Me Guest Lecture will be with the owners of Coming Soon, a furniture design and gift shop founded by Helena Barquet and Fabiana Faria in 2013 right at the intersection of New York’s Lower East Side and Chinatown — some of you may know it as Dimes Square.
They’re launching their first products designed in-house this month, and I’ll be talking to them about it next week when it’s official. “The store has the vibe of an enchanted playland where color and texture entice you to touch everything,” Wendy Goodman wrote in New York Magazine last year. “It has a warm, welcoming charm, a feeling that your life would be better, more joyous, and hipper if only you had one of Gaetano Pesce’s brilliant cartoony wall clocks, a rug or three from Cold Picnic, or some Facevessel glasses by Degen to add to your apartment.”
*Paid readers* can ask them anything about running a Lower East Side retail business for ten years, working with a partner, and design trends. Head over to the Feed Me chat to discuss.
NEWS:
I got a tip from a reader this morning about Juice Press’s Equinox locations.
In the mid-2010’s, one of the highlights of belonging to Equinox was also getting Juice Press after your workout. The bonus was that most of the Juice Press’s were Equinox members only — you couldn’t just walk off the street and order a smoothie. The Soho Equinox has a Juice Generation which I frequent often. Now, I’m going to give you guys a hot take: Juice Press was at its best when they made stickers that said stuff like “DRINKING GREEN JUICE IS BETTER THAN SMOKING CRACK COCAINE.”
Since the smoothie chain’s prime in 2014, they have pivoted to using powdered greens and I think their quality has gone down. Which is a shame because of the opportunity Erewhon has created with their viral smoothies. Last week, Grub Street’s Tammie Teclemariam went on an adventure to find New York’s best smoothies, so the shift is being clocked by larger media. I reached out to the Equinox and Juice Press teams, and I’ll let you know what they say when they get back to me.
Delilah, a restaurant with locations in Miami, LA, and Las Vegas, is opening in Chelsea. The restaurant/club is known for having a no-photo policy and appears in at least three Drake songs. Delilah signed a more than 10-year, 10,000-square-foot lease for a two-floor space at the newly finished 50 Ninth Avenue (nice site). Delilah is part of h. wood group which was founded by John Terzian and Brian Toll in 2008, and some of their other restaurants (many of which have been mentioned in Drake songs…) include Bootsy Bellows and The Nice Guy. This is their first New York property.
rhode is doubling down on product development. They’re hiring an in-house chemist. This rhode vs. Glossier thread made me laugh.
I enjoyed Diego Segura’s most recent letter about the state of his design firm which he has named Family Office. Some of my favorite designers are often my favorite writers as well, and his letter felt like fresh air. He also announced an upcoming radio concept coming this summer. “A block party and live taping of a marathon radio show, featuring the best conversationalists downtown has to offer. We’ll be broadcasting live, hosting a party at the space (to be confirmed), and will have a full programming schedule featuring podcasters, comics, writers, and more.”
